Master Chorale presents: Songs of Paradise: Fauré’s Requiem in Late-Romantic France
May 10, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
We conclude our dynamic 2018-2019 season with one of the all-time masterworks for voices and instruments, the Requiem Mass of Gabriel Fauré. We feature this work in its original setting for choir and small orchestra on a program that celebrates the musical legacies of late-romantic French master composers. The music of Fauré’s predecessor as organist of Paris’s La Madeleine, Camille Saint-Saëns will also be heard alongside works by Fauré’s great pupil, Lili Boulanger – the first woman to win the Prix de Rome – and that of her sister, Nadia, the 20th century’s most important composition teacher.
